Good Day. I am a new member from South Africa. What was the A.O.D? A medal impressed to R.P. Williams (no title) A.O.D has me interested as to who he/she was and what unit he/she was with. The medal has no bars.

Thank you in advance

I note from the roll that the man you are referring to was a Tailor by trade. The AOD stands for the Army Ordnance Department or Corps in modern day parlance the Store keepers of the army.

I too have looked at the Williams medal but decided against it because of the lack of research potential. It all depends what you are collecting for, merely to acquire or to research the recipient. The roll indicates that no clasp was awarded to Williams.

Regards and I hope this helps.

Storekeeper made me smile, I caught up with an old friend yesterday, a servicing RLC officer and over luncheon, I mentioned that term, he laughed and pointed out that in these desperately hard times, it would be very nice, indeed, to actually have a store to keep!

I thought this medal would make a nice research project, but the lot had been removed from BoB before I could bid. :(

Thanks for the notice, it is truly a terrible medal and not worth bidding on at all. ;)
