thanks for letting me join this group, My Great Great Grandfather Gunner 62478 George Read 'O' Battery Royal Horse Artillery died 23rd Oct 1900 Pretoria. He joined South Staffs aged 19 but died aged 36, just a few months after my great grandfather was born (who also spent his life in the RHA). I attach some information regarding his service and death, Id love to be able to find a photo of him if at all possible?

If I can make out his residence correctly, it was Lichfield; unfortunately, the Lichfield Mercury hadn't begun to print photographs at the time of George Read's death.

Have you tried contacting The Staffordshire Regiment Museum? http://www.staffordshireregimentmuseum.com/

The Royal Artillery Museum is hoping to reopen in 2020.
