M.W. Theunissen was my great-great-grandfather & he served in the AB War, taking with him his eldest sons as "penkoppe", including P.J.V.de Kock Theunissen (very long name!) who would later become my great-grandfather. I think they might have ended up as "hensoppers", as they were originally from Caledon in the then Cape Colony (all his children were born there) & according to my dad laid down their weapons after Pretoria & Bloemfontein fell to the British. M.W. Theunissen was a teacher by profession & lived somewhere in the Freestate at the time the AB War broke out.
