Can anyone tell me why my Wife's Grandfather should have the same number as 5 others. He was 6350 in the Royal Lancs and I have his 2 clasp QSA where I got the info from.

I should have said his name is George Olive

Western,

Regimental number are usually unique within a regiment so I would expect other soldiers to share the same number but they would come from different regiments. No one else in the Royal Lancashire Regiment should have the same number.

If you use the Name Search function on the top menu and search for this number, you will see lots of matches.

Does that answer your questions?

Kind regards
David

As examples, there is:

6350 Private J Foster of the South Lancashire Regiment, and
6350 Private J Kelly of the East Lancashire Regiment

Western,

My list of participants in the Boer War is a work in progress and several British regiments are yet to be added.
