Hi, I am trying to find information about my great great grandfather. All I have to go on are little snippets of information that have been handed down to me through my mother and grandmother.
I was told that my great grandmother, Maisie Morris, was born off of the coast of South Africa and that her father was a captain in the army....which makes me think he must have served in the Boer war.
My great grandmother, Maisie, wasn't always completely truthful...so I am not 100% sure of her birth, but her marriage certificate to my G.Grandfather says she was 24 in 1923 and shows Arthur Frederick Morris to be her father and army captain. (1 census record has her down as born in 1905 and her death certificate has her down as born in 1912!)
I'm quite lost when it comes to searching war records and wondered if anyone had any info….it was someone else's post, on Google, that alerted me to this forum.
G.G Grandfather - Arthur Frederick Morris
G.G Grandmother - Annie Morris/nee Moore
Apparently, Maisie had 2 older brothers who died (one was impaled on railings) and she found her mother dead in bed after she had fallen and miscarried her unborn sister after learning of her husbands death. That would have left Maisie orphaned...she apparently went to live with the nuns....she was also a cousin of Sir Francis Chichester, but again, her stories were quite convincing....I am not sure, but I think that would have been on her fathers side as her mother was from County Clare.
Apologies if any of this info is irrelevant, but wanted to put in as much as poss, in case anyone has heard stories throughout the years.
Any info or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Roma.
