I wonder if anyone could help me find out more about 'O' Battery RHA and the campaigns that my Great Great Grandfather took part in at all? He was posted to SA on 28th April 1900 but died on 23rd Oct 1900, during this time he was was awarded the following; South Africa w/clasp, Transvaal, Cape Colony and Orange Free State Medals. He died in Pretoria on 23rd October 1900. Gnr. George Read 62478 'O' Battery Royal Horse Artillery. I'd really like to love to learn more about the Battery during this period? Thank you

Welcome to the Forum. There is a precis of the activities of "O" Battery, RHA on the "Publications" category of the site (see panel at left under MAIN MENU). After going to Publications, go to Unit Info, go to Imperial Units, go to RHA and there you will find the precis.
62478 Gunner George Read Died of Disease at Pretoria on 23/12/00 according to the SAFF Casualty roll.

Sighburge,

Here is the link that IL mentioned: angloboerwar.com/unit-information/imperi...-artillery-o-battery

You can also use the site search (in the top right) to find more details on Diamond Hill or Uitval Nek.

I think it says 'From excess numbers', presumably a pool of artillery men not initially assigned to a battery.
