I've not posted before and I'm not sure if this post should be listed under medals or some other heading.
My grandfather served in S Africa and I have his medals, inscribed with his name and service no - 77493 COLLINS J RFA. He has the QSA with six bars - Tugela Heights, Laing's Nek, Transvaal, Relief of Ladysmith, Orange Free State and Cape Colony. He has the KSA with S.Africa bars 1901 & 1902 and he was awarded the Distinguised Conduct Medal.
That said, I can find no trace of him. He is not listed in the DCM medals list and when I input his name in the general listings it returns a blank.
I have a copy of his service record. He was posted to S Africa 23-10-1899 and returned 29-08-1902. There is a note to say he was wounded in action at Spearman Hollow, Natal 26-01-1900.
Can anyone shed light on this mystery as to why he does not appear anywhere!
PS I have also searched the London Gazette for a Citation for his DCM without success. There is a COLLINS J but with a different Service No and rank.
