Hello all,

I am looking into the details and history of the above mentioned chap.

I have found copies of his records showing he was assigned to the 2nd battalion on 16th Jan 1902 until 3rd Sep 1902 (previously 3rd battalion from 3rd Sep 1900 at home), he served in South Africa from the 16th Jan to 6th Oct.

Is there anyway to know more detail of where he was and what he would have been doing if it is not on his records?

Cheers

Dan

Dan,

As you might expect, he received the clasps CC and SA02.

The location of the CG battalions in 1902 is shown here: www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/im...43-coldstream-guards

Kind regards
David

Hi David,

That is for this.

Would there be any way to know which company he was in? Or are there lists of men who served in specific garrisons? It would be nice to know if he was one of the men sent to a specific town or garrison as described in your link.

Kind regards

Dan.

Dan,

I am not aware of that level of information. I cannot even suggest where it might be accessible.

You might try to locate a history for the CGs during 1899-1902 and that MIGHT assist. I know that the GG Regimental history did assist me in respect to a 3rd Grenadier Guards chap in my collection. No certainties, however. You have to dig as deeply as resources permit. David pointed you towards Stirling's "Our Regiments" for 2CG and that may be it. Sometimes, all you can arrive at is the fact that a man was in the region indicated by his clasp(s) and between certain dates.

IL.

Thanks for the pointers folks, very much appreciated.

I will try some of the follow up reading as suggested and hopefully find something extra.

On a bonus note though I have managed to obtain a rather splendid photo of my chap in uniform with his mum.

Cheers
