Hello from Australia, and thank you for inclusion to this site which I am learning to navigate.
I am compiling a book on my family history, Private Edwin John Trow my maternal grandfather and perhaps his father Captain G Trow, and brother Cpl G G Trow,
Edwin served in 3 major wars, including the Boer War for which he lied about his age, being too young at the time. Also WW1, & 2.
Would love to find out as much as I can about their Boer War participation, and would be valuable information to include in our family history
Edwin was associated with the Transkei Mounted Rifles, as he lived in Kentani near Butterworth. I have found the relevant QSA roll 100/277 but request that
If anyone by any chance has any further information about E J Trow or the G Trows, - I'd appreciate hearing about it
Many thanks & regards
Tim

Welcome to the Forum. I am sure you will find many interesting posts and topics related to the 1899-`1902 campaign; as well as others.
I had a look through the Colonial Contingents section of "Boer War Services of Military Officers, etc" and there is a brief reference to a "Lieutenant G. Trow" under "Transkei Mounted Rifles (Cape Colonial Forces)". At the time of the compiling of the list, not said but thought to have been around the end of 1901, only a couple of Lt's plus the CO were still on service with that unit..
Not much to assist you, I realise. However, other Forum members have a great breadth of knowledge on the subject of Colonial units and may be able to help.
Regards
IL.

Yes, many thanks for that, almost certainly relatives. All from Butterworth/Kentani area and members of the Transkei Mounted Rifles Regiment.
There were quite a few George Trows. The original settler from Wales George b 1816, his son George b 1857, (Probably the Lt, to become Capt), who in turn had a son, George b1880, probably the Cpl and was my grandfather Edwin's b1884 brother .
There are a couple of Whitfields there too, George b1857 had a sister Mary Ann Trow who married Arthur Whitfield b1855!
Thanks!
