Came across this when tidying the attic.
A pity not all relics have some written history attached.
The script reads
KRUGER CUP
This cup was taken from a farm in the Boer War 1901
& was carried & used by Capt J.H.Purvis H.L.I. 14 Feb ‘01 to July ’02.
Capt Purvis took the 16th M.I. from Aldershot to South Africa
The 2nd HLI providing one company – Later Capt Purvis was
given command of the 15th M.I. – A memorial to those
killed is in Bloemfontein Cathedral Orange Free State
The 16th M.I. was broken up
& personnel returned to regiments
July 1902
16th M.I. – 4 companies (420 personnel & horses)
