Summers Ernest 30728 Trooper Source: QSA Medal Rolls 85th Company, 22nd Btn, IY 4 years 5 months ago #69806

Hi
I am researching my great grandfather Ernest Summers. He voluntered and was in the 85th Rough Riders. He served all through and i think he was wounded at Plattburgh. We have a picture of him on his horse, reduced file size has made it a bit blurred.
He signed up for WW1 in RA in Europe.again wounded. Family story is he tried to sign up for WW2 but was told he had done his duty and could sit this one out !!
Any further info would be great !!
Thanks
Kathy

Welcome to the Forum. The Palmer casualty roll says "30728 Pte. E. Summers of 24th IY" was indeed wounded at Platberg on 27/5/02". Only a few days before the end of the Boer War. From what you say, your GGF had a long association with the military.

IL.
