New member to the site with a query about Boer POW 13340 Abraham Benjamin De Villiers Pickard of Bronkhorstspruit. Taken prisoner at Wilgerivierstas 28/9/1900. Would any of the extremely knowledgeable members have any additional information about him. What Kommando would he have served in and what was their record in the war ? Would anybody know anything about his wider family history and its time in South Africa etc ? Of interest because Pickard is a family name and although there are several who served with the British Forces its been quite a surprise to find one in the Boer ranks. Keen amateur military history buff but not over familiar with the Boer conflict or the best way around South African research, so any help would be very gratefully received. Congratulations to everybody who is involved with the site, the administrators and contributors are superb.
Many thanks

Hi, I have referenced the DTD & ABO medal role compiled by Don Forsyth and unfortunately could not find a Pickard on it. In saying that I know there are names either missed or Boer veterans that either did not apply for the medal or did not receive it as a result of signing the oath of allegiance to the Crown. So there may still be some info out there and recommend contacting one of the researchers listed under the "Contacts" heading at the top of the Forum page. Good luck with the search
Regards

Gavin
