Hello

I'm very happy to be here. I found this site because there is a post about someone from my husband's family tree. I have no special interest in this war beyond a number of soldiers who fought in it. However, my husband served in the Royal Artillery and has a huge interest in military history so I might be some use as well as seeking information for my research.

The most direct Boer War participant was Kenneth Kirke wikitree profile

A Royal Artillery Officer, he was at Lombard's Kop and the defence of Ladysmith.

While visiting Kew, in gentler times, I read through much of his army record and discovered that he suffered from shell shock in WWI. Comments such as "I don't understand. He was brave enough in S Africa" led me to this conclusion.

Another, more distant relative, is Lancelot Baines, a thread with photographs of both him and his grave in S Africa is what led me here.
