Thank you - every forum seems to work differently.

He was Royal Artillery (it runs in the family).. also a cricketer and with a fine singing voice (I met up with his daughter and learned about the real person not just the data).

Thanks for the picture of 2nd Lieutenant Kirke and I see Mike has beat me to it and posted the picture
To post your photo on your blog you first add the image as an attachment (as you have done). Then having attached the image you will see the 'Insert button beneath it. Click on the Insert button below the image. That will add some text to your post which, once saved, will be replaced by the image.
I only learn this recently myself ;) Great picture by the way.

He didn't remain a slender subaltern! (just to prove that I have learned to insert a pic)

Two of his brothers were also professional soldiers but younger and served more in India, until WWI. They are the only set of three brothers all to win DSOs in WWI. There is a letter from King George V to their father to congratulate him.
