Found this (picture attached) ring in my fathers things. I believe it belonged to his grandfather Harry Howard Bettle who (along with his brother Fred) enlisted in Canada to fight in the war. Family history says the brothers were at Hart River, when after the battle, Fred realized that his younger brother was not among the living or dead. He rode his horse back through the battlefield and found Harry who had been thrown from his horse unconscious with a broken collarbone and shoulder.
Back to the ring.... I don’t know where it is from. It is marked “sterling” and “Hundale” in the back. I believe there was some connection to the mounted rifles and the NWC?? I also believe that “perseverance” was their motto?? Harry was also in WWI and the Police Force in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, so it May have significance elsewhere. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thank you. Yes, Fred was with the Canadian Dragoons and was invalided back with enteric fever. He recovered and returned to South Africa with his brother. Any interesting mentions of them in the book?
Any thoughts on the ring?

Sorry nothing on the ring as there is no picture..... But the motto "Perseverance” is also the motto of the Strathcona's Horse during the BW and later after 1910 the regimental motto of Lord Strathcona's Horse (RC).....
