Hi Folks,
This is my first post, I have a QSA which I find a bit strange, first with the service number, the rank and unit seemed to have been rubbed off, but looking at it under a loop I could see 1st .... and scratched on horse, would anyone have an idea as to this. Many thanks

Gazetteer [2628: 2612-2803] a town in the South African Republic (Johannesburg district; Gauteng), 60 km south of Pretoria. The town furnished a commando for the South African Republic’s forces (Cmdt B.J. Viljoen; Cmdt J.J.Pienaar; Cmdt J. du Preez; Cmdt S.J. Eloff (18701944)) and the South African Republic’s Constabulary (ZARP) based on the town was also formed into a commando (Cmdt W.J. Viljoen; CmdtP.R. Oosthuizen; Cmdt J.P. de la C. Schroeder). By 30 May 1900, the town was surrounded by the British army and Maj F.J. Davies, Grenadier Guards, was sent to demand its surrender from Special Cmdt F.E.T. Krause. Krause and J.P. Meyer, the volksraad member for Witwatersrand Goldfields, offered unconditional surrender to Field Marshal Lord Roberts provided that the British delayed their entry to allow the last armed burghers to leave. On the following day in a formal ceremony outside the court house, Krause surrendered the town to Roberts who then set up his headquarters at Orange Grove*. Lt-Col C.J. McKenzie, Seaforth Highlanders, was appointed military governor and Maj-Gen A.G.Wavell's 15th infantry brigade was left as the garrison. There was a white concentration refugee camp located on the racecourse. HMG III pp.73-75and 88-92 (map no.38); Times IV pp.148-152 (map facing p.148); Camarck; Cd.819.

thebigmick,

The naming is unusual and this is because this is a renamed medal. Someone has tried to remove the original name and add the name of Mr Adams.
Dr David Biggins
