I have been informed that Colin Owen passed away on Monday. Colin was the author of several medal related books, especially medal rolls , but is perhaps best known amongst us for his book on South African Military Badges, often referred to by their “Owen” numbers.

The worst news possible to receive upon awaking today, I suspect he had not been in the best of heath for some considerable time though, he sold his collection some years ago now, he had the annoying habit (only from my view point) of just knowing that a particular plate or badge was very rare indeed, often saying "I can find a little place for it"

Sad news

I was saddened to hear that. I never communicated with Colin but the legacy of his research works are well known to me and many others.

I have known Colin since 1975 when I bought medals off his Chimperie Agencies' Postal Auction.
Will miss his bombastic style when he phoned with details of a "special" medal for sale....
