It is disappointing that it has not been possible to identify the recipient of this medal. We were close but I would agree with you that, for the moment, positive identification eludes us.

Yes, it's too bad we didn't have more luck! But as you point out, djb, it does seem that the name erasure was a deliberate choice, so maybe honoring the person's privacy is the way to go.

Thanks again to everyone for the help--I did learn a lot about this war in the course of noodling around looking for information, so it's all good, as the kids say!
