Welcome Heather,

It is great that you are trying to determine the recipient of this medal but it is quite a challenge. Whoever removed the name did a pretty thorough job.

The section before the word Pte is his regimental number. I thought this may be 4601. If this is correct (and I am not sure it is), there are around 50 men with this regimental number.

The naming is going to be in this format: number - rank - initials - surname - regiment

Best wishes
David

Could the regiment be something like 'MANC' 'LANC' or 'LEIC'? And could the surname have a G in it?

In photo #2 the letter after PTE. appears to be at an angle - W or V?

4601 PTE. W. WRIGHT LEIC(S) REGT. ? Except that he had a QSA with three clasps.

David, thanks! It didn't occur to me that the personal information might have been deliberately removed--I was sort of scratching my head about how the edge of the medal could be so worn when the rest was in such good shape! But of course it makes perfect sense.

The horizontal bar reminds me of the abbreviation for Regiment or Light as in this example

Heather,

Could you try some pictures of the rim in different lighting conditions to see if that helps please?

Also, can you take a more zoomed out picture so that we can see how long the surname and regiment names are please?

Thank you
David
