Hi all,

Thanks for the fast approval.

Like many (I assume anyway) I came across this site doing some family research. I'm hopfully going to pick the brains of people far more in the know that me to further that research.

I'm also looking for two needes-in-a-haystack... or, conversely, the Boer War medals for two relatives of mine.

Lastly, I'm writing a family history book and one of my relatives, John Ernest Burt, 48th Company, 7th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry. Regimental # 23508, fought in the Boer War (looking for his medals) BUT I'm also interested in any online journals and whatnot that offer a first hand account of what the soldiers went through in battle, between fights, where the 48th Company, 7th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry were stationed etc.

I'm a teacher in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and while I know a lot on World War I and II because I teach them, I know little on the Boer War (other than that's where guys like Douglas Haig fought prior to the war). I have two daughters, been married for 12 years and look forward to learning some new things!

Welcome, Gord. I'll do some online searching for him tomorrow.

I've hit up ancestry and have his attestation papers and found his name in some Bath newspaper artiles via FindMyPast.

That's all given me the basics but I'm hoping to find out information on troop movements... where he was stationed... what life was like in Africa for the 48th Company, 7th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry... was there parades when he left? Returned?
