Hi Guys,

My name is Nicholas, I am a collector from Sydney Australia. I have been collecting various medals since I was 12 however recently I decided to start collecting QSA's. I am interested in Colonial Mounted units from the early period of the war 1899-1900. I only bought my first QSA a few weeks ago a WIA Defence of Mafeking and I bought a Relief of Mafeking QSA a few days back, both are named to Troopers.
I am now on the hunt for a British South Africa Company Medal pair with a QSA related to Mafeking either defence or relief and a Mafeking siege KIA/DOW.
I am hoping to add some more QSA's in the future namely a Relief of Mafeking to the Queensland MI, a 1st Contingent NZMR, a Strathcona's Horse QSA but a ghost/erased dates one.

Hi Nicholas, welcome to the Forum. There is some fantastic information on here. the members are very helpful. A great start with a Defence of Mafeking, I have been collecting for many years, and only relatively recently took the plunge to get one. Also recommend a lot of reading and get books on the subject matter, e.g "British Battles & Medals" (very interesting resource for not only the QSA, but other medals as well) and the Medal News Yearbook is handy as a quick reference.
Regards

Gavin

Welcome to the Forum. You have set yourself some decent goals there! They are, however, attainable. I have been looking for a QMI with RofM for quite a while now and hope springs eternal. DofM has a small issuance as you would be aware. There are quite a few examples on the Forum of medals bearing DofM and RofM clasps and you are invited to trawl through and view them.
Regards
IL.

Hi Nicholas. Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you are starting from the top with your clasp acquisitions and desired medals. I wish you good luck with your searches. ROFM and DofM medals always seem to have that aura about them for me and many other collectors.
I look forward to reading your posts on future acquisitions.
I have learned so much from the learned members of the forum. I'm sure that you will too.
Cheers,
Steve

Welcome to the forum Nicholas,

You have set yourself some great collecting targets and made an excellent start already.

I have been looking at BSACM/Defence of Mafeking combination recently and have found 9 so far. There are many more with the Relief clasp.

One sold last month: www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-...-force?start=6#72899

There is a dealer who lists this pair on his site. Quite a premium price too. I have contacted the seller about the claims he makes about this pairing in the [Research] section but his incorrect statements remain.

Best wishes
