Hi all, to introduce myself, I am Tim, my interest in the AngloBoer war comes primarillary from my great grandfather who served with first and third contingent of Shropshire Imperial Yeomanry, 13th Coy. He first tried to sign up to the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry, but he was recognised in recruiting office by family friend who knew his age, 17 at the time, not to be thwarted he signed up in Shrewsbury to SIY, lied about his age was accepted and had his 18th birthday on the troopship going over. Therefore main interest is SIY, but I do collect postal coversand photographs for theperiod.
Many thanks, happy new year I guess too.
Cheers Tim

Welcome to the Forum. Many Forum members have a general interest in the ABW and quite a few have specifics. If you have any pics of your GGF or ephemera, we would like to see them. Do you have any details of your GGF; seeing that he did two periods of service?
Regards
IL.

Hi Tim
Welcome to the ABW forum.
Any information you have on your Great Grandfather would be helpful if you wish to share this with the forum.
There are some excellent contributors with a wealth of knowledge regarding the ABW.
Regards
Dave

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,

Unfortunately any ABW photos of GGF not in my possession, there is (somewhere) a photo of him as trooper but never seen it or whereabouts, marrital split post WW1 with GGM stuff lost on separation, luckily my GF managed to obtain his medal set QSA with SIY, WW1 territorial, war and victory with MIY, which I now have and cherish, guess they were the catalist to my collecting.
Managed to find attestation papers from Ancestry on ABW

Pryce Webster 1351 13th Coy 5th Battn Imperial Yeomanry, signed uo on 4th Jan 1900 in Shrewsbury, Home from 21-2-00 to 14-4-00, in SA 14-4-00 till 10-6-01. Home 18-6-01(discharged) QSA medal bars for Cape Colony, Transvaaal and Orange Free State. SA01, SA02
Re-enlisted for third contigent SIY 2-1-02 Price Webster 37958 124th Squadron 27th Reg (spelling mistakePrice, not Pryce) Promoted Corporal
Shipped back to SA 1-5-02 till 19-10-02, discharged at Aldershot 26-10-02.

Thats all i really know of his ABW service. endevouring to find out more, I know there is a photograph of group before enbarkation in the Shrewsbury castle museam, I am going to try to get a copy when they reopen mid Feb. I have found a ref. to letterss etc to a 13thCoy. trooper which are in Yale Libary, I have requested copies of papers which should come through some time soon, will post images then, may be relevent to someone elses reaserch??

Will post scan of medal group, would that be best in a different thread?

All the best Tim
