Hi All,

My name is Janco. I'm related to the Horn's of "Hornsnek" on the Magalies just to the West of Pretoria (almost in line with Daspoort fort)
As kid, I remember there being two graves belonging to Brittish soldiers on the farm, if possible I would like to find out more about them.

To colour the picture a bit further, my grate gran's second husband was Renier Christaan Upton, who was executed by the British on 21st August 1901 in Pretoria. Some of his details are annotated in the book "So het hulle gesterf" by Jooste & Oosthuizen.

Any additional information would be much appreciated.

Greetings, Janco!

It's going to be tough identifying the men on your farm, I think.
Can you tell us a bit more:
- about the farm - what is the farm name, and was it there during the South African war?
- can you provide a GPS of the farm, e.g. from google maps?
- about the graves -Were the graves fenced off or just in the veld? Were there iron grave markers, in the form of crosses? Had the markers been maintained e.g. by being painted silver?
- what stories about the graves do you recall?
let's see what we can discover!
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.
