WILLIAM HUFTON 3 years 8 months ago #75473

Hello there. My name is Sandra Slater nee Hufton.
I joined this group to find out more about my grandfather William Hufton who served in numerous campaigns including The Boer War. As a child I and my siblings were never allowed to touch the medals and upon my my brother's death (they were passed down to him as he was the eldest grandson) they were to be passed to his son. I have lost contact with his son but am still interested in finding out moer about his life in the Boer War. I have searched for details of his medals but unfortunately could find no mention of him. I think that I found records for his brother and cousin but alas not for William. My father was aware that he was present at the Relief of Ladysmith I do know that my father, also William was very proud of his father's service in South Africa so I was rather disheartened when I had so little luck. For 200 years generations of Hufton had served their country with one being at Waterloo so I am sure that you can understand my disappointment. If anyone can help me find him together with details of his medals I would be so happy.
I hope to keep using your site with more and more interest. Regards to all. Sandra.

Hello Sandra
Welcome to the forum.
Have you got any more details pertaining to your Grandfather William?
Where he lived or the regiment he served in? Any clues and extra details may help in finding out more information about William Hufton.
Regards
Dave
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave

The Hufton of the Leicester Regiment has initial G on the QSA roll and GW on the KSA roll.

He served in the defence of Ladysmith and at Talana and received QSA (4) and KSA (2).

There are no papers for him.
