TOPIC:

I have John GREEN Private 1269 1st Bn Derbyshire Regt; served with 9th Mounted Infantry as a prisoner released 9/12/1901 near Virginia.
I am presuming he had been taken as PoW.
I can find little about English PoW (other than Winston Churchill's escape) Is there any information about Virginia and Pow anywhere?

The Palmer roll shows your man as POW near Virginia 9/12/01 and (presumably) later released. 9th BN., MI had lost quite a few POWs that day and at that location. In the lack of any further info, I would say that the officer and men were marked or reported as missing and later released as the Boers had no capacity to house captives long term.
