Hello
I am trying to find out if a James B Allan was a member of the Transvaal Constabulary. I have correspondence that is addressed to a J B Allan No.188 Transvaal Constabulary, Barracks, Pretoria dated Sep 8 1900. The envelope was marked as undeliverable and forwarded to "Detail Camp".
The only reference to a J B Allan I can find was a Lance Corporal 676 Johannesburg Mounted Rifles who then joined Damants Horse as a Trooper 37661(name on nominal roll as James Bertram)
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I find him killed in action in 1917. (familysearch. south africa)
His WW1 SA service papers may give a clue.

Following on from Rob's post reference WW1 Private James Bertram Allan 4292
If it is your man, there are a few clues on his pension card.

Personal effects.
With regard to the ABW. There are James Allan & Allen.
See below

Damants Horse

This is the only Allan I could find pertaining to Transvaal Constabulary.
There is a number 27755 against his other numbers 676,1230 & 37661. I couldn't find an entry for that one,so not sure if it is a regimental number.
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave

HI Guys,

Digging around a bit more with regards to Trooper James Bertram Allan, I have come across his entitlement for the King's South Africa Medal which has been issued off the Damant's Horse Roll (WO100/360), and that regimental no. 27755 & 676 are both linked with the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles.

But back to the first question, I have been going through all sorts of combinations of names, the spelling of these names, periods of serving and regimental numbers and not having any luck to the man that JBJ is chasing.
Trev.

Thankyou for your time and effort. I will research some more into the different spellings of Allen/Allan
