…….My grandfather got shot in the skirmish. Not fatally, that happened several years later on another continent.
This is my first visit here for many many years. Very impressed with the new site.
Apart from general interest in the conflict and South African history, I would welcome any information on the activities of 8th Mounted Infantry Regiment, even more specifically the East Lancashire company, which was detached at Orange River in early 1900. Official and unofficial regimental histories have not much detail that I can find about where they went/what they did apart from a few major incidents. Any advice on sources such as eyewitness reports from either side, diaries etc, particularly from ORs, would be welcome. I apologise if it’s already here, I haven’t had time for a good look round yet.
