Memorial type: a stone horse trough
Memorial location: Barnard's Green, Malvern, Worcestershire, England.
OS Grid Reference : SO798454

This memorial commemorates the horses that died during the Anglo Boer War 1899_1902.
As we know, these beasts of burden were also unsung heroes of the war with huge numbers required for the highly mobile nature of warfare on the veldt. They also helped sustain the besieged folk of Ladysmith etc. with the chervil concoction! So very worthy of a memorial whether 'salted' or not!
I had considered adding this to the thread for the Boer War Memorials of Worcestershire, but on making a couple of searches found that there are are numerous memorials to the equine combatants around the old empire and so invite contributions to the thread.
The memorial at Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape Province in SA is very poignant as it depicts a trooper offering a bucket of water to his steed.

That is a lovely memorial and certainly a very deserved memory of all those horses, oxen, mules etc that had a vital part to play and for whom it would be their last service.

Many thanks for posting the pic of the plaque. That is a lucky find and could start off a new collecting theme!
