Thank you for the add to your site. I have been researching the local men from my area (Uralla NSW) who served in the Boer War. The local RSL sub-branch Uralla is hoping to install a Boer War plaque for the anniversary next May, and I am hoping to have the names ready for the plaque before then. I have placed a post already and hoping someone can help out. Thank you, Kay.

A plaque like the one proposed is an excellent idea.
Following on from my earlier reply regarding Tpr. C.J. Walkling, the Oz-Boer database identifies several members of 3NSWMR who came from Uralla NSW or close by. They are:
Tpr. John Alexander McCrossin
Tpr. William McHugh
Tpr. Percival Claude Williamson
Tpr. George Cuthbert Francis (actually he was from Emmaville, but NoK in Uralla).
There could have been several others from your general area who served in either of the Bushmen's contingents or in 1st/2nd NSWMR - or even the Aust. Comm. Horse. The best way to follow up is to look on TROVE for any such references in copies of the Armidale Chronicle or any local papers. There are frequently group photographs of members of the NSW contingents on TROVE: The Australian Town and Country Journal for example. Unfortunately, the images are often muddy and unclear. Caused by the passage of time and newsprint quality of the day.
Good luck with your quest. If the local RSL sub-branch succeeds in the placement of the plaque, you might care to post a pic on this site.
Regards
IL.

Thank you. Yes, I have those fellows. I have 24 so far and I think that might be it.
George Cuthbert Francis's father had the Miners' Arms Hotel at Rocky River - he threw quite a reception for 'Bert' and the others who came home at the same time - and his mother died in Emmaville whilst visiting her three sons.
Trove has been very helpful and I have also gone through the local papers not on Trove 1899-1902 on the reels at the library (very lucky to have them locally). I find the 'Letters to home' to be a great source of information as well. Yes, it's unfortunate that the photos from the papers are a bit unclear, but they come up ok with a bit of adjustment.
I have noted in my diary to post a photo of the plaque once installed - May 2022.
