TOPIC:

A question for the experts, i hope you can help. In the window of a local museum near me, they have a Red R.E. Tunic worn by Joseph Bowden. States in the blog that he wore this at the siege of Mafeking. i checked the names on here and it does not tie up with Mafeking, more likely Ladysmith. on the name search on here, there is a J bowden mentioned 3 times re. the Royal Engineers. I would like your input if possible please.

I don't grade myself as an expert on Mafeking - however Walker's Siege Register does show a "J.Bowden" who served with the Mafeking Town Guard Railway Division and who was on the "Wasp" truck on 14/10. Might not be identical with the wearer of the tunic as in the Mafeking Museum his name is given as "BAWDEN" .

I just checked the Medal Roll, Volume 5, published by the Royal Engineers Museum and they have seven Bowden's, four of which are J. Bowden...... There are no Bawden's.....
