From the South Wales Daily News dated 26th May 1900:
BRITISH PATROLS SIEZE
LIVE STOCK.
(Press Association War Special.
MASERU, Wednesday.
"British patrols are out throughout the Ladybrand district, and commandeering is proceeding on a considerable scale. Many horses and cattle and much needed live stock have been brought in. No Boers are allowed to travel, either by cart or on horseback. Many are detained in camp, and several of the leading men of the district are in prison.
A company of the Worcestershire Regiment has marched into Ladybrand, it's band playing, amid much excitement on the part of the inhabitants, many Boers witnessing such a sight for the first time.
Patrols are daily in Thaba N'chu district,as well as round Ladybrand, capturing horse, cattle and sheep in great numbers. Fifty leading Boers in the Thaba N'chu district have been imprisoned. The majority are away fighting, but those remaining on their farms are surrendering. The stores at Thaba N'chu are much depleted, and traders are unable to restock owing to the military authorities monopolising the railway."
