Hi there,
I am from the UK. I am researching my grandmother’s Seed family. I believe one Thomas Frederick Seed b. 1861 might have emigrated from the UK to South Africa. I have found an 1888 marriage to an Elizabeth Maria Rebecca Chippendale in Mooi River, Natal. I have also found a T Seed in the passenger lists arriving at Durban in 1882. I find Elizabeth Maria Rebecca widow of ‘Fred’ Seed on her mother’s 1904 probate record, so I know that Thomas Frederick dies before this. I am interested to know whether he might have been involved in the Boer war. Elizabeth’s mother was born Elizabeth Boet which I assume might be a Dutch name. So this couple may have had mixed allegiance?? There is a record on this site for a F Seed in the Cape Police. Is there any way I can find out more about this person so that I can establish whether this is my person of interest?

Hello CHess,

I don't think that the Cape Police man listed on this site is your man.

Frederick Hutton Seed who served in C.P Dist 1 was born in New York, USA on the 24 September 1870. He didn't serve for long being discharged on the 31 March 1901 and it seems that he did not like having a regular wash !!

Dick Seed was with the Natal Police in the ABW. He kept a diary on the siege of Ladysmith

Hello Rory,

I believe this to be Richard " Dick" Seed who enlisted into the Natal Police in May 1899.

He was mentioned for bravery and promoted to Sgt for his part in an action during October 99.

Here he is shown on the nominal roll

This R.Seed died on the 18 August 1948 in PMB.
