Hi,
I have come across the below photograph of an unknown Colonial Unit with a footnote at the bottom of the picture mentioning The Coronation of Edward VII (1902) and Australians and would like one of the more knowledgeable forum members to assist in identifying this Unit as I have not previously researched nor looked into the uniforms of the Coronation.

What I have taken away from this photo is that all the troops present, appear to be NCO's and except for the middle soldier sitting who is wearing a medal ribbon, all others are wearing the QSA with no clasps and the third man standing from the left also appears to be wearing the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medal (1897).

As the QSA's have just stood out for me, maybe it's a more regional event of newly issued Queen's South Africa Medals to the Troops.

No idea about the units. The sling attachments on the rifles are unique - I will ask Australian collectors if they know the significance.

Thanks for your quick reply. If we go down the Coronation path; Australia became a nation on 1 January 1901 and the self-governing Colonies formed the Commonwealth of Australia.

So with the Coronation being held in August 1902, I would imagine all the Australian States that paraded in the UK were now wearing the same standard style/design of uniform. Unless of course they were allowed to individualise to differentiate the States.

I will have to go and further search the uniforms of the Coronation to compare and see if there are any differences.

With reference to your comment on wearing a similar uniform Trev.
I think you are right, the lanyards , hats, plumes seem to be in keeping with your original picture. The only difference maybe the collar patches which could have reflected the individual colonial regiment.
The caption for the above image read, Australian Coronation Corps on board ship 1902.

Another image of the Australian Coronation Corps, image is a little grainy when enlarged, but it does look like the collar patches are different on some of the uniforms.
