I have had a look at the Imperial Yeomanry papers for Joseph Thompson /Thomson.
180 Thompson's recorded.
3 Joseph''s located. Birth dates 1879 and 1881
Place of birth , Middlesex, County Durham and Newcastle.
Only one Joseph Thompson who was employed as a Groom. That was the Newcastle chap.
Nothing related to Hereford at the moment, will keep looking.
Do you have any more family information regarding Joseph? The more clues we have, may help in the search.

Hello Digger99

You mentioned you have WW1 papers pertaining to Joseph? Which regiment did he serve during his time in WW1? Also, which document mentions his time with Colonial Light Horse?

Cheers

Hi Dave

I picked up the groomer from Newcastle as well which is why I was just not certain about the Herefordshire story and the main reason I was digging for more information on his services prior to the ILH. If you look very closely at the 2nd ILH roll that you attached you'll find on the left side of the page it actually says "Prv Ser CLH". During WW1 he served in the East Africa campaign as a Driver for the S.A.S.C but again I have photographic evidence that he could have also served in the RAR/RNR the odd thing is that I don't see it on his discharge papers from WW1 and would have to look for it in his WW1 service records.

I have looked very closely, and in my humble opinion the Prv Ser CLH could be attributed to:-
