Dave - in my humble opinion you have found shipping records for a W Francis. Look at the way the initial "D" is written for number 46 on the list.

I did have a quick look at this but did not get very far beyond noticing that on the death record of David Francis his "Race" appears to have been filled in as "South African".

Thanks for all your kind help David F and Smethwick. I have spent most of the day looking for a David Francis with a brother Walter that fits. I have come close a few times but no cigar! I have even looked through the workhouse records/ pauper records and the pauper David Francis born abt.1861 fits well, but there is no Daniel. I shall make another dive into the records tomorrow.
