Hi everyone,
I have just joined the forum as I am interested in sourcing any information, especially photos of my Great Grandfather who at the time of the Boar War was Major Herbert Kendall Jackson (he retired Bgd-Gen in 1917) in the RHA

He was involved in the Relief of Mafeking and I have already posted to some existing topics with information I have on this

I was fortunate enough to re-acquire his medals from David and his brother some 10+ years ago after the family decided to sell them in the 1970s and have since then been writing up a biography of his life.
I am especially interested in his military career which started in the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich in 1877

There is not much on him in the "Boer War Services of Officers" book. However, there is some detail in Vol.11 of "The Distinguished Order". but most is about WW1. If you don't have access to that volume, I can post pics.

The group to Herbert Jackson is fantastic. You have presented it very well too.

Do you have his officer's papers from The National Archives? They might tell you what he was doing in these early years. I have not looked for it but imagine it exists.
