Dear All,

I have just joined the site. I am researching my family in South Africa and have now reached the time period of the Anglo Boer war. I am in particular looking for information about Van der Merwe's from Edenburg, Kasselman's from Hoopstad and Davel's Orange Free State.

I know that my dad's mother (Davel) at age 15 was held in the Norvalspont Concentration camp. Her mother died there. I also have information about Maria Elizabeth Kasselman and her 1 year old son was held in the Brandfort Concentration camp.

Any information or guidance on where to look for information would be highly appreciated.

For the concentration camps, you can begin by searching by name or by camp; with the farm name you can search by farm; etc.:

For the burghers, I suggest start with a search by name, here:
wmbr.org.za/view.asp?pg=research&pgsub=databases&head1=Search
Once you have a burgher's full name, Dewald Nel may be able to provide (for a reasonable fee) the Vorm B application for the Anglo Boere Oorlogsmedalje, which will give many details of where he fought etc. Email [email protected]
