I have recently been looking at research I have on this battle and thought members may find interesting a letter that Broadwood sent to one Neville Chamberlain some 9 weeks after the battle.
Apologies for the pages, no matter what I do, I seem unable to attach right way up

Regards

Simon.
Also attached is the report rejected by Roberts which must have been seen as reflecting on both parties.

This made for very interesting reading Simon. Can I ask, did this form part of his official dispatch? Nice to have the hand-written version - makes it that much more personal.

No, Rory,
In fact I think Broadwood's' letter states that he was directed to rewrite the dispatch at the direction of Lord Roberts. The official dispatch painted both parties in a more favourable light.

It is good to have 1 of my DCM's (Van Dyke Todd - Robert's Horse) listed in that rejected dispatch, but the main character Bomb Nolan (Q Battery) does not appear. His DCM was due to the direct intervention in a hand written recommendation by Major Phipps- Hornby (a copy of which I have in my file).

Thank you Rob,
Looks like my issue is with the format.
