Hi there,

I am trying to research my Great Uncle Charles Tuting Bouchard Trooper 457 Pietersburg Light Horse who attested Durban 28-12-1901.

I was wondering if anyone could advise me of any sources of information that might give me any further details of his service history?

Thanks for any help you can offer

Peter

Hello Peter
Welcome to the forum.
The link below maybe of some help reference your Great Uncle Charles.
www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/so...tersburg-light-horse

Nominal roll

Medal roll details.

I think he was entitled to a QSA medal with a Transvaal clasp and 2 date bars 1901 and 1902.
Also, if I have the right chap? He went on to serve in WW1 / Mounted Military Police and Labour Corps.

Regards

Dave.
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave

Thanks for your help Dave,

Yes you have found the right chap. I understand that after serving with the PLH, Charles re-enlisted with the Mounted Military Police as a Lance Corporal in 1914 and was serving at Passchendaele in 1917 when he was court martialled for drunkenness and transferred to the Labour Corps as a private. He was still in the Labour Corps in 1920 having by then attained the rank of WO2.

I didn't know which clasps he was entitled to on his QSA medal, so thank you very much for this information.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,
Welcome to the ABW Forum.

From Bill Woolmore's book "The Bushveldt Carbineers and the Pietersburg Light Horse,"
"BOUCHARD Charles, Trooper No. 457 (PLH): Born Mitcham, England. No previous service. Enlisted in the PLH at Durban on 28 December 1901- aged 25, mineral water maker, height 5'7 1/2", fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, NOK: mother, Mrs. A. BOUCHARD, 21 Ravensbury Cottages, Mitcham, Surrey. Discharged 30 June 1902. He qualified for the QSA medal with clasps Transvaal, SA1901 & SA1902."

The book is an excellent source of information on the BV and PLH. However, now out of print and pretty expensive on the used book market.

Cheers Steve

Thank you for your efforts Steve,

I had looked for a copy of Bill Woolmore's book and found it as you say a bit pricey! so thank you for your confirmation of it's content which satisfies my curiosity at the present time.

HI there,
I'm trying to trace any information on a Henry William Bouchard possibly a Corporal in the Royal Artillery and rumoured to have succumbed to disease at Pietermaritzburg 29/12/1881.

Is anyone able to give any more concrete information??

Thanks

Peter
