Many thanks to Rob Davidson for organising the event,and all who shared their knowledge and use of their rifles on the day. Very much appreciated by myself and my son Adam who shot live rounds for the first time.
The gun racks displaying the weapons were a focal point and I got to shoot with a Martini Enfield.303 for the first time (that certainly packed a punch!). But not sure that I could pass muster for Thorneycroft's or Bethune's Mounted Infantry who used these weapons and could fire from horseback!
Having a vivid imagination, I couldn't help but imagine myself as a colonial horse soldier in a skirmish or a burgher waiting to open up with his Mauser at Modder River!
And also enjoyed the social aspect of the meeting with acquaintances from the 2022 event. It was good to see their passion for the history of the Anglo Boer War.
