Thank you. I've found the attestation very interesting. I hadn't clocked on to the fact that Grandad served under Queen Victoria. I also remembered him seeming to be taller than 5.9". And he had a birthmark! I've been trawling through some websites to see what role horses played in the Boer War in order to understand the stories he told about looking after horses. All very fascinating. I knew a decent amount about him post his army days but not very much about his military life. My current interest was sparked because my grand-daughter is visiting WW1 graves in France and Belgium and I wondered what he did after the Boer War and before WW1 and what regiment he was in ..... lots of lovely research for the Winter months. Thanks again.
