I have recently undertaken further research on a DCM group that I hold.
The DCM was gazetted in 1902.
The QSA has the clasps of CC,OFS,T, TH, RoL all confirmed on service papers and the KSA +2.

The DCM did not appear in the LG until 31/10/1902 and is of the EV11R type. All records including the regimental history confirm the award was for duty as a stretcher bearer at Colenso.

The problem is, that on his service file, it stated that he did not arrive in SA until May 1900. now everything is good and correct from every source except his service file, so can anyone give me any idea as to why we have this problem with his entry date, can it be the the service file is wrong?

I would also point out that his name is unique in the DCM Rolls 1954-1914.

Regards

Simon

Well, 4311 Pte Levey was definitely a stretcher bearer at Colenso on 15 Dec. 1899 and is mentioned in the regimental orders of the following day (see p7 of: XIII. HUSSARS SOUTH AFRICAN WAR October 1899 – October 1902, avaliable for £10 at www.naval-military-press.com/product/xii...r-1899-october-1902/ )
