Hello all, thank you for accepting me onto the forum.

A set of medals has come into my possession from a relative, which she had found hidden in a house she moved into in the late 1960s. The intruiging thing I have found out is that the the medals were awarded to a man who lived in the house opposite. I've tried to piece together a timeline of who lived in the two houses with help from the Birmingham History Forum (I can post more details if anyone asks). The medals were still in the original Queen Victoria chocolate tin, and I think the paper liner is the chocolate wrapper! I have tried to trace direct decendents and there are none living, only a few distant cousins, of either family, so I am wondering whether to sell the medals.

Details of George Horton:
Anglo Boer War - British Army 6240, Scottish Rifles, Lance Corporal
Great War - British Army 1345, Army Cyclist Corps, Lance Corporal

Welcome to the Forum Crimson Petal.

George Horton's Boer War & WW1 attestation papers and service records can be found on Find My Past. There are 12 pages. Also on FMP I have found him and his wife and two daughters on the 1921 Census and him, wife and one daughter still living at home on the 1939 Register. I have downloaded them all but they will need some trimming and downsizing to post them on this Forum. So probably best transmitted by email - you can privately message me your email address using the facility on this site.

Thank you so much. I will PM you. Could you advise which part of the forum I should make my main post on? I'm guessing not here?

I've written a bio of George and posted that with the photos in the Medals section, Ladysmith Clasp thread:
