I cannot say that I was surprised to find that there wasn't an existing thread recording medals to this unit. I do not anticipate many posts being forthcoming either. I hope to be proven wrong!

Raised late on in the conflict in 1901, the corps was made up of around 100 men mostly of mixed race and primarily stationed at Tontelbosch Kolk protecting the remounts, grain stores, arms and ammunition.
The Bushmanland Borderers proved their mettel during the defence of this place when it was attacked by the Boers in November and December 1901. The BB were ably assisted in the defence of Tontelbosch Kolk by a number of the Western Province Mounted Rifles. Several mentions were gained by men from both units having withheld the Boer onslaught and denying them any of the provisions in store there

I am wondering if these mixed race blokes of the BB received the QSA for their service and whether it was silver or bronze as issued to the Indian Contingent.

Officers and NCOs certainly received the silver version and the corps was expanded to around 600 men following the siege of Tontelbosch Kolk.

Not a separate thread but not a forgotten unit. See here www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-...a-h-k-stephens#64231

82 REGIMENTAL SERGEANT -MAJOR WILLIAM DOYLE: BUSHMANLAND BORDERERS

William Doyle first saw service in the Anglo Boer War with the Duke of Edinburgh's Own Volunteer Rifles with the service numbers 496/476 as Transport Corporal.
Following service with Dukes, he became 4051 Transport Corporal in Kitchener's Horse on 18th December 1900 till discharged time expired in April 1901.
His next attestation was to Warren's Mounted Infantry on 29th April 1901 having been given the rank of Squadron Sergeant Major with number 584. This seniority in rank was obviously appropriate following his service and experience with Kitchener's Horse.
His attestation to Warren's Mounted Infantry tells us that he was 33 years of age, born in 1868 and enlisted at Cape Town. He was a Baker by profession and his next of kin was his wife residing at 30 Russell Street, Cape Town.
He took his discharge from Warren's MI on 18th July 1901.

William attested to the Bushmanland Borderers at Calvinia on 18th January 1902 becoming 82 Regimental Sergeant Major.
On disbandment of the unit he was discharged at Eindekruil on 9th July 1902, his character described as "good". He had served 173 days with the BB.
H address after discharge being P.O. Johannesburg, Transvaal.

For his war service he was awarded the Queen's South Africa medal with clasps Cape Colony, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Wittebergen.
Also the King's South Africa medal with both date clasps.

KSA awarded to 82 R.S.M. William Doyle.

Rank and naming to the rim.

Regimental naming to the rim.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I have seen his QSA out there, so it could still possibly be extant.
