Hi Tim

I attach, courtesy of Ancestry. the only two rolls I can find for a F Askell/Arkell - as you know they are both your unit - Driscoll Scouts - with the one referring to unverified service with the 16th Lancers who were not, as far as I am aware in the qualifying period for the RoM.

Regards

Rory

Hi Rory
Thanks I had this information. I have it. Was hoping that someone would have the Kaplin book on the Relief of Mafeking bar. There is no mention of him in the 16th Lancer rolls even before the war.

Tim,

His attestation paper makes mention of the fact that he did not serve in the 16th Lancers.

I have an embryonic roll for the RoM with a book in mind. Trooper Fred Arkell is not listed. No one, as far as I am aware, from the 16th Lancers or Driscoll's Scouts received the RoM clasp. The only RoM recipient with a DrSc connection is Trooper Robert Charlton, SRV, who served as a farrier sergeant in DrSc between 22 July and 6 November 1901. DMU.

Best wishes
David

Just now I finished a run through the "A"s in the Kaplan Roll for units and individuals entitled to the Relief of Mafeking clasp on their QSA medal. Sorry to say that I saw no "ASKELL" or "ARKILL".

IL.

Thanks, it is what I originally thought. The bar is an addition even though the rivet looks like it is older than the other two bars.
Thanks for the input.
