Hi All,
I am reaserching my family history and have been given a copy of a Volunteer discharge certificate from a relative that shows my Paternal Great Grandfather Corporal Charles Ackers (no 1679 0r 1079) served with the Prince Alfreds Guards Mounted Infantry between 13th March 1901 and 7th October 1901.
Can someone guide me in the right direction to get more info. This seems a very short length of service for a Corporal so I am presuming that this was probably an attachement to this unit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Graham,

He is listed on the roll for the PAGMI (WO100/264 p7) as 1679 Hospital Corporal C Ackers, earning the single clasp Cape Colony. The medal was issued to him 17 Oct 1902. There are no notes about prior service on this roll but there is a reference to another roll (68/SA/8186) but I do not know which roll this is.

His name does not appear on the nominal roll for the PAGMI and there appears to be no other entry on the QSA rolls for him.

There are no enrollment papers here in the UK for the PAGMI either.

I would agree with you that this is a very short period of service and an unusual rank.

Regards
David
