Hello, my interests are in swords which expands to researching them and gaining detailed history from the Napoleonic era through Victorian to Boer War and WW1.
The Boer War established swords as obsolete and saw several patterns evolve finally to the 1908p cavalry sword.
My grandfather was with the 48th Highlanders of Toronto. He joined in 1902 and ended in 1908 or 1909 to become a dentist.
Accurate shooting was an important skill and several team photos he is pictured in.
I have added an interesting picture of a Canadian soldier saying his farewell, leaving to the Boer War to the displeasure of his mother and unsureness of his son.

I know that the swords that were sent to South Africa with Strathcona's Horse were collected up and shipped back to Canada even before they left their transport ship.....
