My latest purchase and one that has excited me no end.

This is an unusual single clasp entitlement. 2654 Wright, T H F joined the Natal Police on 3/9/1901, so clearly qualified for the 1901 clasp. He must have left before the start of 1902, otherwise he would have qualified for the SA1902 clasp as well.

The two date clasps are the standard combination for the men contemporary with Wright. However, Wright and one other man appear on an extra page on an earlier roll as being entitled to the 1901 clasp only. There is clearly a story behind his short service and the enlistment register in the PMB Archives might reveal it.

As far as I can tell, this is one of only two Natal Police medals with this single clasp combination. To those people who collect single-clasp QSA’S this might be regarded as a real treasure.

The above information was supplied by Brett Hendy for which I am very gratefull.

Wright passed away in 1947 and his death notice is in the PMB Archives. I will have a copy at the end of the month.
