Can anyone please help in my search for this unit which was in Kwazulu, eastern Natal during the Boer War.
My GGF was with the Durham Light Infantry Mounted Infantry and was detached to the MCR employed doing duties in the Kokstad Town Guard and having searched the web and read books on the war cannot fing anything at all about what he was doing in an area where very little seems to have happened.
Michael Barthorp's excellent account of the war makes no mention at all of military activity in the eastern cape, also a historian friend who lent me a copy of the Boer War Honours and Awards from the DLI archives makes no mention of the 3 (Vol) Militia Bn DLI who served at the time.
If it was'nt for the Medals records for GGf showing he had the Queens South Africa Medal and a photo of him on horseback I am starting to think I will never find anything out about his service history.
Really am desparate and running out of options can anyone give me an idea what to do next?

Good morning,
From memory, I had thought that the Mount Currie Reserve was actually part of the East Griqualand Field Force, but, in any case, I would think perhaps you should speak to Audrey Portmann, [email protected] in South Africa on this unit, she might be able to provide some information about this unit, though not, about your great grandfather as he was serving in the British Army at the time.
Regards Frank
