Just a quick hello,

Joined today after just discovering the Service Records of 2 ancestors:

Charles Gilbert WARD 7923 Private 18th Royal Irish Regiment

John Thomas WILKINSON 94917 Driver U Battery Royal Horse Artillery (died of enteric fever Pretoria 10/6/1900).

Any help with further information on these men or their units would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Simon

Welcome Simon!

Do you already have the service papers for these two ancestors?

There are pages on the site for the two units; RIR www.angloboerwar.com/imperial-units/650-royal-irish-regiment and U Battery www.angloboerwar.com/imperial-units/642-...-artillery-u-battery

Best wishes
David

Hi David,

Thank you very much for those links. Very interesting to get a bit of background info.

Yes, I do have their service records. It was particularly upsetting to find John Thomas Wilkinson's, as he died of Typhus in Pretoria 10/6/1900. I'd been searching for him for seven years and never expected that.
